About Emily's Cookie Jar
Back in 2009 I became a team captain for our Relay For Life team. My mom was helping me think of ways we could raise money for the event. She said why don't you do something with baking since you love to do that and out of that conversation came Cookies For A Cure.
I couldn't decide what cookies to bake but knew I wanted it to be something with Christrmas since that was coming up. So we decided to sell cookies by the dozen. I picked out the recipes which included some from my Grandma Hayes, my cook books and Mom's recipe for Toffee (mom is pretty proud of that recipe, it is about the only thing she can make and not burn it). My Mom and I sat down and made up a brochure that we sent out to family, friends, co- workers, anyone we could think of and put it on Facebook.
Before you knew it we had over 145 dozen of cookies to bake. It was an awesome response from everyone. My whole family pitched in, Dad made the fudge, Grandma Jones came over and helped us bake for a couple of days, Abby even helped by keeping an eye on my little brother Levi and being the taste tester. Mom helped package them up and drove me around to deliver the cookies. It was a lot of work, but worth it when we could raise money for something that has affected so many people in my family.
Fast forward to the fall of 2010 and Mom asked if I wanted to do my cookie baking again. She suggested we put it all together this year pick out a name that would reflect the project, get a logo, and a website presence (can you tell mom works for a company that designs websites). We talked about the charity I would like to help and I decided I would like to help a different one each year. So we changed the name to Emily's Cookie Jar and picked out Adopt A Family and Toys For Tots. I enlisted the help of friends, mom's co-workers and of course my family to get it all together so Emily's Cookie Jar could have another successful year.
